About Tarbut
Language acquisition through songs and stories, games and creativity, a first introduction to reading and writing, and Israeli culture.
The programme is for children aged 0–10 from Hebrew-speaking families living in North-East London neighbourhoods who wish to preserve and nurture the Hebrew language and culture — close to home.

Who we are
Hi! I'm Shachar, a content creator and former journalist. I've lived in Islington since 2020, and after two years of running monthly Hebrew storytelling and creative sessions for neighbourhood children at the local library, I founded Tarbut to meet the growing need to expose children to Hebrew language and culture.
Our team includes four teachers and two teaching assistants who work with classes divided by level and age.
Our Classes
Ages 0–3
First Hebrew encounters through song, play and movement. For toddlers and parents together.
Ages 4–5
Hebrew through stories, drawing and games, with a first introduction to letters and sounds.
Ages 6–7
First reading and writing, vocabulary building, and connection to Israeli holidays and culture.
Ages 8–10
Advanced Hebrew writing, reading and conversation. Children connected to the language and Israeli creativity.
History
The Tarbut educational network was a pioneering initiative that operated in Eastern Europe between the two World Wars, primarily in Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.
At its peak in the mid-1930s, the network comprised around 269 educational institutions, attended by approximately 44,780 students.

Sessions take place in a local school building in the Canonbury area of Islington, a five-minute walk from Highbury & Islington station.

Fees
Registration and payment renewed each term. Single-session payment is not available.
Standard: £16 per child, £13 per sibling
Gan Party: £13 per child, £11 per sibling
